Were lawn gnomes really intended to protect against black magic?
lawn gnomes that are in yards, were they origionally put in yards for the purpose of protecting the house against black magic, and what exactly is black magic ?
Black Magic is harmful magic.
Gnomes are about nature, both wild and domestic. Thats why they are yard gnomes and not house gnomes.
I think you might want gargoyles instead. They were meant to protect against evil magic and evil spirits. The modern version would be security cams

black magic is really magic or ill feelings or intent on a person place etc…. garden gnomes are in yards not really for protection as in aiding in a good crop/garden… gnomes are believed to live in gardens and Fields therefore your paying respect to them and asking there assistance in your garden.. now adays its common decor more than wiccan beliefs

I always thought gnomes were meant to protect a home and sometimes "help" with the household chores.
Black magic is pretty much just ill wishes against someone. Basically what it does is if you have ill wishes for someone, you can send the negative energy to them and cause them misfortune. Not a good thing to get mixed up in…
